For those of you don't know, this Asian holiday is occurs every March 14, one month after Valentines Day, when the guys give gifts to the girls (try saying that 5 times fast!). Originating in Japan, many Asian countries take part in White Day, K-Pop idols included. On this day, guys usually give gifts like white handkerchiefs, white chocolate, jewelry, white flowers, marshmallows, and even white lingerie! However; if your not the kind to give underwear or if you're single, then never fear because you can give giri-choco! This Japanese term means "obligation chocolate", meaning that you can give this kind of chocolate to acquaintances, not necessarily to people you're really attached to.
So, even though nobody knows about White Day here in America, I dutifully wore white today and I really did hope for a white ribbon (DNAngel reference!). In any case, whether you're single or in a relationship, I say celebrate White Day anyway just for the sake of celebrating! I am and I'm more excited about White Day than Valentines Day! Don't forget your chocolates! Happy White Day!
